The Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Workforce Development and Training Platform
Introduction:
The State of Georgia recognizes SAMHSA licensed Opioid Treatment Programs (OTP) as Narcotic Treatment Programs (NTP). NTPs/MOUD services deliver the most comprehensive treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Several regulatory agencies oversee this industry that demand ongoing training and oversight for Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD).
MOUD Workforce Development Initiative:
Georgia’s (NTP/OUD) industry is in need of a workforce qualified, capable and comfortable with working with Medications for Opioid Use Disorder.
This unique treatment therapy requires extensive Pharmacological medication training not offered in other Georgia addiction treatment modalities.
This industry must be compliant with the Georgia Department of Community Health, Georgia Pharmacy Board, SAMHSA, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and any Accreditation agency.
The high rate of staff turnovers is an ongoing issue for most programs in Georgia, and the consistent need for qualified staff stagnates the process of providing efficient services.
Many applicants may have successfully completed various courses and training in the field of behavioral health and addiction counseling, but much more guidance is needed to fully understand MOUD.
There is a lack of clarity on the variable dimensions and operations of narcotic treatment programs and other services directly related to MOUD.
